8th Grade Parent Information Night & "Shadowing" Events

Don't miss the SMUHSD's Parent Information Nights held at each of our comprehensive high schools. This event is designed to help families of 8th grade students learn about the wonderful high schools of the SMUHSD. Highlights:

  • Learn about academic programs, and extracurricular clubs and activities.
  • Meet the staff who will help to guide your soon-to-be freshman.
  • Tour the school grounds.
  • Learn important pre-enrollment and registration dates

Capuchino Drama is looking for an artist to design the cover art for their upcoming production of The Miracle Worker. All designs must be original and emailed as a pdf file to Mrs. Mendoza by September 30th. The winner will be awarded tickets to the show and a free T-shirt with their design.

Family Engagement: Support Our Teens in Their Grief

Date: Monday, September 25, 2017

Time: 6-8 pm

Location: San Mateo High School Library (506 N. Delaware Street, San Mateo)

 

Details: This event is intended to provide families and our broader community with additional skills to address teens' grief by developing a foundation of knowledge on grief, growing one's sense of compassion, and providing opportunities to reflect inward on one's own grief history. Attendees will learn to: 

  • Use tools that will allow them to recognize symptoms of grief
  • Support those in grief
  • Gain skills to use a framework to process grief

The annual San Mateo Union High School District's College & Career Fair is here again. More than 100 vendors will speak and offer guidance to more than 1,000 students and family members who will attend this popular and informative event.

IB Scholarships: Attention all IB students taking exams this year: All IB scholarship requests are due next Friday, September 29th. If you know you'll need financial assistance to pay for your exams, see Ms. Beas or Ms, Lopez in the IB Center. Do not wait until it's too late.

 

Free/Reduced Meal Program: Reminder, Students that were part of the free/reduced meal program last year carried over for the first 30 days of the school year and were set to expire 09/23/2017. The deadline has been extended to 9/27/2017. Families who have not completed an application this school year should go to ezmealapp.com to complete application and avoid disruption in the meal program. If you are unsure of your meal program status, please contact Clare Luna, Health Aide, at the Health Office.

 

Homecoming Bowl: Our annual flag football game is coming up. If you are interested please attend the meeting in H225 during lunch on September 26. This event is open to all.

DIY Club meets today at lunch in room C121, Ms. Levine’s room

 

French Club! The French Club will meet today at lunch in room A-205. All students are welcome.

 

International Relief Services meets every other Monday at lunch in room H246.

 

Sports:

Girls Basketball: Anyone interested in trying out for the girls basketball team this year, there is a mandatory meeting in the main gym on Thursday September 28th at the beginning of lunch at 11:55. At the meeting we will go over important information for tryouts and the clearing process to tryout for the team. Please be on time

NEW TEMPORARY BUSINESS AND STUDENT SERVICES OFFICES ON HINKLEY DRIVE, BURLINGAME

The SMUHSD is saying “farewell” to its antiquated, over crowded facility and trailers, and saying “hello” to a state-of-the-art District Office scheduled to open in the fall of 2018. To make room for construction, Business Services and Student Services will be located in a temporary facility at 839 Hinckley in Burlingame starting in October.
