Hello all

This is a final reminder to have students turn in their summer school forms, to their counselor, this week.

During programming meetings, counselors gave out summer school forms to students who needed to make up one or two classes this summer.

If you think your student needs summer school, and you have not signed an application, please contact their counselor

Thank You!!

Capuchino High School's Leadership will be hosting "Ending the Hunger Games!" It's a Hunger Games themed canned food drive starting on March 13th - March 31st. But why host a canned food drive now? Although many generous people donate around the time of Thanksgiving, food banks end up running low on stock as Spring comes around the corner. To ensure that those who rely on food banks for groceries can continue to do so, we will be collecting canned foods, toiletries, coupons, and money to donate to "CALL Primose Center" food bank located in Burlingame.

However, this is not your typical drive..... It will be a competition between the Freshmen, Sophomores, Juniors, Seniors, and Faculty! Drop offs for CANNED FOOD, COUPONS, AND TOILETRIES are separated into six locations:
Freshmen (District 9) - Library
Sophomores (District 10) - Leadership Room (H225)
Juniors (District 11) - Career Center (A210)
Seniors (District 12) - Main Office
Faculty (The Capitol) - Teacher's Lounge (Both Office and H-Wing)

All MONETARY donations should be dropped off to Mr. Bywater (H225) or the Main Office in an envelope marked "Capuchino's Ending the Hunger Games"

To learn more about "CALL Primrose Center", feel free to visit: http://www.callprimrose.org/

Students: It is the end of January and we are having some problems with students getting to school on time.

I have started an new intervention.  Students who are late will receive a brightly colored tardy slip that informs them of their mandatory attendance to Thursday after school detention for one hour. There will be a list of students who are assigned detention outside my office door. I will only be using your student ID on the list.

Campus aides and myself will be handing out detention slips for students who are late to any period during the school day.

We are trying to help you get to class on time, for your sake, the teachers sake and the other students in the class.  It is really disruptive when students walk into class after the teacher has started the lesson.  Please be respectful and do your best to get to school and class on time.

I am available to meet with you to see how we can set a plan up to help you to get to school and class on time.

Sincerely,

Ms. Graf

Students: It is the beginning of February and we are having some problems with students getting to school on time.  I have started an new intervention.  Students who are late will receive a brightly colored tardy slip that informs them of their mandatory attendance to Thursday after school detention for one hour. Campus aides and the Dean will be handing out detention slips for students who are late to any period during the school day. IB Boosters Meeting, Nov. 15, 7:00 PM

IB Parent Boosters will be holding our first meeting of the year on Tuesday, November 15, 2016, 7:00 PM, in the Capuchino library.  Come learn about the work that IB Boosters do to support our IB students and faculty.  In addition to approving our budget, holding our annual election and planning our events for the year, we will have some of the IB teachers and Ms. Martee Lopez-Schmitt (Capuchino’s IB Coordinator) attending and available to give us insight into the IB program and answer questions.

All Capuchino community members are invited to this meeting.  You do not have to have a student in IB to attend.  If you are interested in supporting the IB community at Cap or simply want more information about IB, please attend.  If you didn’t have a chance to join the IB Boosters at the beginning of the school year, we accept memberships year-round and will be happy to have you join at the meeting ($20 per family for the year!)  We’ll have light refreshments available at the meeting.

If you have any questions, please contact Nina Keys at (650) 588-5728 or nina@keysfamily.org.  Looking forward to seeing you on November 15th!

This year Capuchino is hosting their first Oxfam Hunger Banquet! We are partnering with Oxfam America, an organization that works to decrease the number of people who live in poverty, which is an undermentioned and overlooked topic, by tackling the problem right at its root.

Those who live in poverty sadly do not have access to clean water, education, shelter, sanitation, and or food. This is not just a banquet dinner, but an eye-opening experience to a whole new perspective as to what hunger means! It is an interactive way for everyone and anyone within the community to come together to end hunger!

It will be hosted on:

November 18th

6PM to 8PM

Capuchino’s Cafeteria.

To attend, it is $2 per person, but all proceeds will go back to Oxfam America! Additionally, if you are interested in attending, you will have to RSVP. RSVP will end on October 16th, so be sure to sign up before then! We hope you come join us. Together we can greatly impact the lives of those who lack the resources to create new opportunities for themselves, their families, and their communities!

Dear Capuchino Families,

Cap PTO has had a great start to the school year!  We kicked things off with our Welcome Tea, hosted the Sophomore Parent’s Reception and a dessert table at Back to School Night, and held a Capuchino Community Potluck. Thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to those events.  We’re on a roll!

Our next event is the annual Garage Sale, Saturday, Oct 8, 2016.  We are partnering with the Latino Parents Organization (LPO) for this fundraising effort and could use your help with donations for our sale. Check out your closets, garage, and other hiding places for items that you no longer need and would like for us to find a new home for.  Due to space restrictions, we're collecting items on one day only, Friday, October 7, 3-6pm in the band room. We could use any gently used items such as:

  • small electronics
  • housewares and kitchenware
  • childrens clothes and toys
  • sports equipment
  • tools
  • clothes and shoes
  • unfortunately we can't take infant items, automobiles or large furniture.

All Cap families and friends are invited to attend our next PTO meeting on Tuesday, October 4 where our featured speaker is SMUHSD Superintendent Dr. Kevin Skelly. He will update us on the most recent events in the District and have a brief question and answer session.  The pre-meeting social starts at 6pm and the PTO meeting at 6:30pm in the library.  Sports Boosters will follow at 7:30 with their monthly meeting.

The PTO supports the school by providing snacks for school testing, help with registration and graduation activities, senior scholarship, winter and spring teacher appreciation events, hospitality, and grade-specific parent meetings. We are a self-funded group. In addition to fundraising we ask for $35 membership contributions, so if you are interested, please join by clicking the link below and dropping off your membership form to our main office.

Sincerely,

Those students eligibility will expire on September 23, 2016 and they will no longer be able to receive a free/reduced meal. We would like to encourage students/parents to apply as soon as possible to remain on the program.

There are many benefits to being on the free and reduced lunch program including waived or reduced testing fees for IB exams, SAT's, ACT's, AP Exams, etc. and a reduced cost samtrans bus pass.

The quickest method is to submit an application online at www ezmealapp.com. It takes approx. 5-10 minutes and is submitted directly to the district. Paper applications are still available at the Health Office.

BULLETIN

CAPUCHINO HIGH SCHOOL

WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 31st, 2016

PAL Stickers Update: Pal Stickers will only be sold Thursday and Friday of this week in room H225 (Cap Corner.) Please note, you do not need your ID to buy the sticker.

ID Cards: Sophomores, please pick up your ID cards today at lunch in the upper gym if you’ve taken your photos.

Join the Cap Peer Tutor Program! We are looking to hire peer tutors who can work 7th period or after school in the library. We need peer tutors who are friendly, responsible, good communicators, and possess a strong academic record. Most importantly, we are seeking students with a genuine desire to help others. If you are interested in becoming  a peer tutor, please apply on line through school loop. You can contact Mr. Rodriguez or Ms. Navarro via schoolloop if you have any questions.

Boy’s Soccer: All new and returning students interested in playing soccer, come out to an informational meeting September 1st, after school at 1:45pm in the Cafeteria.

Interact Club will be having their first meeting this Thursday at lunch in H-115. Come in and join the biggest community at Cap dedicated to service above self!

What's way more fun than Pokeman GO? Bridge, that's right bridge! An old-fashioned card game paired with strategy just like chess! Did you know that both CAL and Stanford have bridge teams and compete internationally? Bridge is a fun way to sharpen your mind and have fun with friends. Join us on September 8th at lunch in D2 Ms. Salas' room  to check it out. Beginners are welcome!

Outdoor Ed: Attention sophomores, juniors, and seniors: Outdoor Ed will start in early October. If you like being outdoors with 5th and 6th graders and want to improve your leadership skills or community service points, then please come and sign up with Ms. Quon in the main office during brunch and lunch.

Students: Come and watch our cross country team compete at Oceana High School today!
